Scandi Gibson

  • 2 oz Aquavit
  • 1 oz Cocchi Americano
  • 10 drops Bittermens Hellfire Habanero Shrub
  • 20 drops Bittermens Orchard Street Celery Shrub

Combine the Aquavit, Cocchi Americano, Habanero Shrub and Celery Shrub in a mixing glass half-filled with ice. Stir until chilled and diluted, about 20 seconds. Strain into a chilled rocks glass or coupe. The original recipe calls for a cocktail onion, but GJ doesn’t play that shit.

This is Halloween, this is Halloween! Per tradition, our good pal and LA Weekly film critic Amy Nicholson joins once again to talk horrible movies! The theme this time is scary clowns. Join us as we discuss the cult “classic” Killer Klowns from Outer Space and the Insane Clown Posse’s Big Money Hu$tla$!

After another spooooky Intro from Vampire Rodd, GJ determines that it might be time for him to change up his act. What do you think? Is it time for him to ditch the Count Chocula act and move on to some Boo Berry action? Before moving on, Nick checks in with Amy to see if she’s still smarting from her 3rd place finish in Bionic Jeopardy, and we also discuss her podcasts The Village Voice Film Club and The Canon.

Then it’s on to GJ’s Random Thought. It’s an election year in California, so he wants to talk about Sacramento politicians and political attack ads. Trust me, it’s funnier than it sounds.

And we will NEVER forgive him for it!

And we will NEVER forgive him for it!

Whatcha Drinkin’?! comes next. This time we have a spicy little number called a Scandi Gibson. The main ingredient, aquavit, is a caraway flavored spirit that kicks well enough on its own, but the addition of Cocchi Americano and habanero bitters make this cocktail come alive with complex flavors and a bit of good old fashioned heat. Don’t slug it down, people, this is one you sip. As an added bonus, GJ has also brought along some homemade fireball whiskey! This isn’t that horrible Crayola-red cinnamon schnapps that you and your junior high buddies used to drink behind the dumpster at Wal-Mart, this is the good stuff. Nice work, Geej!

After that we roll right into the Meat. For this edition of the Halloween Spectacular, we’ve decided to pit two dreadful clown themed movies against one another. In one corner we have the campy cult “classic” Killer Klowns from Outer Space, and in the other corner we have the so-bad-it’s-bad Insane Clown Posse film Big Money Hu$tla$. But before we dive head first into the crap, Nick begins by relaying an article from the Smithsonian about the history and psychology of clowns being scary. After that, Nick, GJ, and Amy do their thing and break down the clowns! Other topics covered include:
